I think I am going to start carrying a pocket recorder or at the very least a use the note pad in my planner to keep track of blog ideas that I have throughout the day. There are just a few too many things going on in my head.
That said, I had a great birthday weekend. Saw ‘Conan’ on Friday. Good movie but I could have done without the nudity and sex scene. Also there was a little to much gratuitous blood. Aside those issues it was well worth watching. The action was well executed and didn’t go to far over the top. Jason Momoa was much more believable than Arnold ever was and the character developed was well written.
The big thing that has always bothered me about this series of comics, books, and movies is the historical accuracy. Now before comment saying that the Hyborian Age is a fictional time period, let me say this; Howard based his time line on a real time frame, the Upper Paleolithic Period (around 10,000 to 15,000 B.C.E.). The major problem with this is that steel weapons wouldn’t be seen for 5,000 to 7,000 years and yet steel is the primary material in their weapons. Also ‘Hyborian Age’ was taken from the Greek word Hyperborean which means “barbaric dweller beyond Thrace (north of Turkey in modern Bulgaria) which didn’t hit the Bronze Age until around 4,000 B.C.E.
So there, I have picked it apart and yes I feel better for having gotten that out.
While this one didn’t ruin my childhood and was admittedly very good for what it was, I was a little put off by one of the previews. A remake of the classic ‘Footloose’.
