Climate change is happening, humans are causing it, and I think this is perhaps the most serious environmental issue facing us.
– Bill Nye
In this uncertain political climate, it is important that we recognize the changes in the world around us and not allow the deniers to hide the truth. In recent weeks, the new regime has power and has been removing all mention of climate change from official websites and are attempting to bury the truth. They have even gone so far as to begin the process of eliminating the E.P.A. and other government regulatory organizations that protect not only the American people but the rest of the world as well.
Bill Nye has been an educational voice backed by some of the most brilliant minds on the globe and even took astronomy classes at Cornell University taught by the great Carl Sagan. While at times I found his tone to be condescending (as many highly intelligent people can, look at Sheldon Cooper) in his early work that work was aimed towards youth. He brought a love of science to a generation that needs to take a stand against the tyrannical leaders that seek to deny the truths that jeopardize mankind and all life on this blue sphere we call home.
Yesterday, Bill Nye had a short interview with Tucker Carlson of Fox News. The host was dumbfounded and had that open mouth deer in the headlight look on his face as he continually interrupted his guest to the point that Mr. Nye pulled up a stopwatch on his phone and showed that he wasn’t being allowed to speak for more the 6 seconds. The interview ended with the host laughing idiotically as if he hadn’t just made himself look the fool. The current atmosphere seems to be one where intelligence is frowned upon and even mocked by conservative media and we need to let them know that this is not okay.
The more you find out about the world, the more opportunities there are to laugh at it.
– Bill Nye
Now we get a new show coming to Netflix on April 21st. Bill Nye Saves the World, and it shows promise as a show that will again entertain and educate. I encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to watch. I will.
There’s nothing I believe in more strongly than getting young people interested in science and engineering, for a better tomorrow, for all humankind.
